What comes to mind when I say SUPER BOWL, football, making bets, kegs of beer, loads of fatty and delicious foods, new ads, or maybe perhaps a crazy, fun and wild get together? How about all of the above? The Super Bowl is not only an occasion to indulge on the goodness of football but to surround one’s self with tons of fun. Even though I am not so much into football, I myself will gather around the couch with my eyes glued to the T.V. with a huge juicy sandwich stuffed in my mouth. Yes I admit it that I too will watch the Super Bowl despite being a woman. Houses and bars will be filled with people wanting to celebrate the fact that the Super Bowl has finally come or possibly even try to pick a fight just for the heck of it. But one thing for sure is that the Super Bowl brings a lot of madness, entertainment and let’s not forget the partying!! Not only is the Super Bowl a must watch but it is an excuse to loosen up and forget all the “crapiness” that is happening in one’s life. For many years the Super Bowl has been the most frequently watched broadcast that is on American T.V. Before the game and during halftime, many artists perform. The Super Bowl is such a popular event that it is considered an American National Holiday. How sweet is that? Just uttering the words Super Bowl Sunday makes me excited! The game marks the Saints’ first Super Bowl appearance since their institution in 1967, while it is the 4th time a Colts franchise team has appeared, since their institution in 1953 as the Baltimore Colts. The Saints finished the season with an NFC best 13-3 record. After joining the NFL in 1967, it took New Orleans 21 years to record their first winning season and another 13 years after that to win their first playoff game. The Saints’ offense led the NFL in scoring, averaging just under 32 points per game. Drew Brees finished the season as the NFL’s top rated quarterback finishing an NFL-record 70.6% of his passes for 4,338 yards and 34 touchdowns, with just 11 interceptions.
On the other hand, the Colts blitzed to an NFL best 14-2 record on their way to attaining their second Super Bowl appearance in the last four years. Once again, the Colts possessed a dominant offense led by 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback Peyton Manning, who threw for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns during the season, with only 16 interceptions.
