Last Sunday was a day that the Saints will want to forget. They lost against the Carolina Panthers 30-7 and they also lost one of their key players due to a knee injury, the runner back Reggie Bush.

Apparently he made an extra effort with his knee while he was running on a punt return through the middle of Carolina’s field. He torn his meniscus on his left knee and the only way to repair it is through arthroscopic surgery to which he was submitted on Monday. The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama.

The team doesn’t know yet for how much time exactly he is going to be sidelined since it depends on how the knee heals and how he responds to the treatment, but possibly it will take between two to four weeks. He also had some damage in his cartilage, which is known to be a problem that can take out a player for a very long time since it has happened before to other players, and this is why they can’t be sure of how much time it will take Bush to heal.

Coach Sean Payton has expressed how worried they are because of this injury; he explained that Bush has been a key in the offensive part of the team and that they are all trying to be supportive with him. “From a timing standpoint, it falls with this game and then a bye weekend, so there is a little bit of time there for him as it pertains to his recovery,” Payton said.

The team will fly to London this week, where they are supposed to have a game against the San Diego Chargers in the Wembley Stadium. Hopefully they will have a good result with some changes that coach Payton will do to substitute Bush. The knee has been bothering Reggie for quiet some time now. Last season he missed the last four games because of a knee injury as well. Before he had his meniscus torn, his knee had been swollen but he said he didn’t feel any pain. But with the bad movement he did on the Carolina game the problem got complicated.

Bush started his professional career with the University of Southern California in 2003. Then in the draft for the 2006 season he was selected by the New Orleans Saints as the number two overall pick in the draft. Since his selection by the New Orleans Saints, he was received with a plenty of excitement by the team’s fans. He also signed up advertising contracts with very important companies such as Pepsi, General Motors and Adidas, among others.

His care for the city that gave him such a warm welcome caused him to get very shocked when the hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the devastation that it left in the old city. Therefore, he donated money to repair the community in the most affected zones.

Bush has had a very good record this season so far, which he is willing to maintain when he recovers. In the last game he played, he entered with an NFL’s 41 best receptions. On his overall record this season he has an average of 294 rushing yards, 366 receiving yards, 285 punt return yards and 8 touch downs.

Divisional matchups have been the order so far this season on Monday Night Football and this week the Atlanta Falcons are in New Orleans to close off the Week 8 NFL betting card. It’s the first meeting of the season for these two NFC South rivals who split the series in 2008 with the home side winning each contest straight-up and against the spread.

The undefeated Saints (6-0) are one of only two remaining team in the league with a perfect record after the Denver Broncos lost on Sunday in Baltimore (Indianapolis (7-0) is also perfect after an 18-14 win vs. San Francisco). You can check all of Sunday’s scores and recaps at ESPN.com

For the sports betting community, if you are looking at betting on an undefeated team this late in the season, it means you’re going to be laying points, probably a lot of them. That is the case in this matchup, as the online sportsbooks pegged the Saints as double-digit favourites.

The Saints have been attracting a lot of the betting action throughout the week, as the line has moved all the way up to -12. Online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com reported 78% of all the betting volume on the Monday nighter had come in on New Orleans as of late Sunday night.

NFL Trends: Road favorites in Week 7 were 7-0 SU/ATS including the Patriots at Tampa Bay, even though it was neutral site game, and it wasn’t by small margins that the chalk teams were winning or covering, either. San Diego, Indianapolis, Green Bay and the New York Jets won by a combined margin of 132 points – that’s 30.5 points per game!

Results this Sunday (Week 8) by big home favorites like the Colts and Chargers, who both won straight-up but failed to cover the big spreads, did little to sway bettors away from New Orleans and it could have something to do with the Saints performance last week in Miami.

Trailing 24-3, the Saints offense went to work while the defense stymied the Wildcat and New Orleans made a statement. Starting with a QB Drew Brees rushing TD in the final seconds of the first-half, New Orleans went on a 43-3 run lasting 28 minutes to cement the win and become the first NFL team in history to score 45-plus points in four of their first six games.

Atlanta was in Dallas last week and learned what an explosive offense can do when the Cowboys put up 37 points – the most points the Falcons have allowed in the Mike Smith-Matt Ryan era. Recent success, or lack thereof, by double-digit favorites on Monday Night has done little to sway the tide of bettors from New Orleans, but since Week 6, 2006 there have been 10 double-digit favorites and they are just 2-8 ATS.

This is the seventh divisional Monday Night game of the 2009 season and favorites through the first six games are 4-2 SU but only 2-4 ATS. All six games have gone “Over” the posted total and in fact the only Monday Night game this season that did not land on the high side was Carolina at Dallas in Week 3.

The posted total for Atlanta-New Orleans is one of the highest bettors will see in the NFL but if the Saints keep scoring the way they have been, it could be a sign of things to come.

NFL Picks: Looking at the matchup, I’m going to be taking the big points and hoping the Falcons can keep this one close. Good luck with your bets on the big game.

It’s as simple as that! Even though the sports betting industry is replete with systems and schemes, Sportsbetting.com appears to be the real deal and should be closely examined by all online sports bettors. An excellent way to stay one step ahead of other bettors and to be on top of the success chart is to stay well-informed of the latest sports betting news.http://www.sportsbetting.com

Planning a Super Bowl party this year? You might want to use this week’s Monday Night Football matchup as a good opportunity for a trial run, as could be watching a Super Bowl preview.

The Saints (10-0) are in the midst of the best season in franchise history and the Pats, short of a fourth quarter choke at Indianapolis two weeks ago, seem poised to challenge for another title in February.

The offensive explosiveness possessed by each team has forced online sportsbook to post a total of 56.5 and still the sports betting public is wagering on the “Over”, as many sportsbooks are reporting heavy action on the high side.

New Orleans averages 420 yards per game and 36.9 points. It’s down from their record breaking average of 39-plus points per game the team rode until Week 7 but still more than five points greater than the second place Minnesota Vikings.

New England ranks second in average yardage per game at 416 and with the best one-two wide receiver combinations in the league, the Pats can stretch the field against the greatest of defenses. Wes Welker had a super game against the Jets last week catching 15 balls for 192 yards. Welker makes blitzing Brady a real challenge for teams. His short underneath game sets up the long ball for Randy Moss. Moss is pretty much impossible to cover one-on-one and when he gets the double team, it usually creates a mismatch for Welker.

The Saints receiving corps is almost as impressive with Marques Coltson, Devery Henderson, Jeremy Shockey and Robert Meachem. Speaking of matchup problems, these four receivers will present some for the Patriots secondary. The Saints are hoping Reggie Bush can go coming off a knee injury. The early reports have him playing and if he is ready he can be a difference-maker, but usually plays a secondary role in the offense most games (ain’t that right Fantasy players).

This is a great coaching matchup with maybe the two brightest coaches in the game matching wits for the first time. Sean Payton is as creative an offensive coach as Belichick is a defensive strategist. Don’t expect Belichick to go for a 4th and short deep in his own end in this game but expect some interesting wrinkles from both coaches.

And of course the field generals need no introduction, with Tom Brady and Drew Brees probably guaranteeing this game gets the highest ratings of the regular season. Brady has more experience in winning the big game but the Saints have been charging hard all year and not one team has been able to top Brees’ offense to date.

Both teams have consistent, not spectacular, run games and while each squad has shown vulnerabilities on defense this year we have to expect them to bring their A-game to the dome on Monday Night.

NFL Picks: Pats vs. Saints – After breaking this one down, I’m making a bet on the home team New Orleans Saints laying 1-point. I think they will have a little more success moving the ball, and also get a couple of key stops from their defense.

Enjoy the big Monday Night Football game.

Saints Vs Patriots : Monday Night Football Watch Live:The Monday Night game has all the makings of a classic shootout as the New England Patriots take on the New Orleans Saints. These two teams feature two of the premiere quarterbacks in the NFL and offenses that can score points in a hurry. New Orleans opened up as a 3 point home favorite earlier in the week but sharp wise guy action has come in on New England plus the points.

New England ranks second in the NFL in total yards per game and 3rd in the league in points per game. They are averaging 416 yards of offense per contest and a whopping 29 points a game. Their passing attack is dangerous as ever now that Tom Brady is back playing at a very high level.

He has two great weapons in Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Also, New England is starting to run the ball much more effectively with Laurence Moroney playing well, making this team even more explosive. Statistically, New Orleans is a middle of the road defense.

They rank 17th in total yards and 13th in points allowed. Furthermore, their secondary is giving up 214 yards a game through the air. The Saints’ defense has been hampered with injuries in recent weeks, particularly in the secondary. They are expected to get some key players back for Monday night’s game but they will have to play much better in order to win this game.

As for the New Orleans offense, they are the best in the NFL both in total yards and points per game. Drew Brees can beat you with his arm and the plethora of weapons he has at the wide receiver position or the Saints can pound the rock with Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell.
