Nfl Playoffs 2008 Week 2
Posted by: | CommentsThere are 4 games slated this week for the 2008 NFL playoffs. As I see it 3 of the home teams will win along with 1 underdog.
Dallas Cowboys – New York Giants. I consider myself somewhat of a homer. I grew up in Louisiana and I was a New Orleans Saints / Archie Manning fan from child hood. I like both of Archies’ son and always root for them to do well. Eli played his college ball in Mississippi where I now reside so I followed his college career pretty closely.
I think that the Giants moral victory against the Patriots in week 17 did a lot more for their confidence than most people realize. Eli finally got one monkey off his back last week with his first playoff victory. A little known fact is that Michael Spurlock, a kick returner on the other team is the guy who succeeded Eli at quarterback for Ole Miss.
I think the momentum that the Giants now have along with the Tony Roma – Jessica Simpson curse will propel the Giants to victory in the first ever playoff meeting between these two teams.
In keeping with the Manning theme, I expect the Colts to take care of the Chargers with not much problem. The Chargers handed the Colts one of the two loses this season that really mattered. Peyton Manning had a terrible day with 6 interceptions. No way that happenes again!! After a slow start, Norv Turner has actually taken the Chargers further than Marty did last year, but I expect that run to end this week.
The Jaguars squeezed by the team with my namesake as a kicker last week (Pittsburgh Steelers / Jeff Reed). The Jaguars have played well all seaon long, but with the undefeated Patriots and record setting quarterback, Tom Brady along with record setting receiver Randy Moss, I just don’t see much hope for the Jaguars. Moss broke Jerry Rice’s single season touchdown record this season. Again, I am a homer and saw Jerry Rice play at least 5 times in his senior season in college. I was rooting for the record to stand, but to no avail. I was also hoping that Tom would not break Peyton’s touchdown record that he had just obtained a couple of seasons ago, but again to no avail. They same touchdown pass broke both records. I wonder who kept the ball.
The last game of the weekend will be played between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks. Mike Holgreen takes his team to Green Bay to play aginst the team that he won a Super Bowl with. Again, I am being a homer and rooting for the Mississippi connection of Brett Favre to Donald Driver. I just don’t see Seattle having the fire power to take down the Packers.
Check back next week for my predictions and to see how I did with this week’s predictions.

NFL Preseason Week 2: Patriots at Falcons Odds – 8:00pm EST
Posted by: | CommentsA pair of teams that are football betting favorites to make the playoffs will be featured on FOX TV for a Thursday night match-up in NFL preseason odds for week 2 as the Atlanta Falcons host the New England Patriots with kick-off set for 8:00pm EST. Online sportsbooks opened with Atlanta as a 2.5-point home favorite in NFL picks vs the New England with an over/under of 37 while 2011 Super Bowl odds have the Falcons 25-1 longshots and Patriots 12-1 NFL betting favorites. Both clubs were successful in their NFL preseason openers as New England beat the defending world champion New Orleans Saints 27-24 at home while Atlanta scored a 20-10 win at home over the Kansas City Chiefs in week 1.
The win in week 1 NFL picks felt good for the Pats, who last played at home in a 33-14 playoff loss to Baltimore. “It’s a new year,” said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. “Whatever happened last year was last year.” New England quarterback Tom Brady was sharp as he went 5-8 for 67 yards heading into week 2 NFL odds. Brady had to carry far too much of the offensive burden last year and the Patriots are working on better balance for their attack in the preseason. New England revamped much of the roster with a youth movement in the attempt to take the load off Brady and improve the defense. “We have a very different team this year,” said Brady.
“You know we have to be able to run the football, something that we are really making a point of emphasis. We are incorporating the new players and seeing what kind of offense we can put together,” Brady added this week. The Falcons are optimistic as their defense showed marked improvement against the Chiefs in week 1. Cornerback Dunta Robinson was signed for $57 million from Houston so that the Falcons could compete against Drew Brees and New Orleans in NFL picks for the NFC South. “There’s no doubt about it. I’m here to improve the pass defense,” said Robinson. “Expectations are higher because we have young players, but they’re experienced players,” said Atlanta coach Mike Smith.

The NFL Power Rankings for week 11 are as follows.
NFL Power Rankings Week 11
1. New Orleans Saints: the Saints have looked very human in the last few weeks.
2. Indianapolis Colts: without Peyton, this team would be worse than the Lions…that is how important it is to have a smart QB.
3. Minnesota Vikings: this team is on cruise control until the playoffs.
4. Cincinnati Bengals: season sweep of the Ravens and Steelers in the same year, these guys are the REAL DEAL.
5. New England Patriots: with as many rings as he has, Belichick does NOT have to defend his coaching.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers: can they repeat without Polamalu.
7. Arizona Cardinals: with rookie RB Beanie Wells do they need Anquan?
8. San Diego Chargers: LT found out his wife is pregnant and ran for almost a hundred yards and 2 TDs, could this be the motivation he needs to carry the Bolts to Tampa Bay.
9. Dallas Cowboys: they can’t run it consistently, they can’t throw it consistently…don’t even get me started on their D.
10. Denver Broncos: three straight losses + Orton being hurt, doesn’t look good for the Bronco Nation.

NFL –The Saints and the Colts hold a perfect 10-0 record after week 11
Posted by: | CommentsNeither the New Orleans Saints nor the Indianapolis Colts have faced defeat this season âbut is that good enough for a Super Bowl ticket? Both teams certainly hold a better record than any other team in the league; they have already faced strong teams in their recent games, so there is no reason to believe the 10-0 record is just a lucky strike; if this was not enough the Colts have the best defense and the Saints the best offense of the season. So, are they ready for Februaryâs big game? Sure, the season is still young. Some of the toughest games are still ahead of both teams. Still, quite a few fans are already speculating about what the playoffs might bring for these two teams. Many are certainly wondering how long both teams, particularly Peyton Manning & Co. can hold their winning streak playing like they do. We should not forget that if we take into consideration last seasonâs numbers, the Colts have won 19 games in a row, and therefore the imminence of defeat becomes more palpable after every game. For instance, letâs take a quick look at the last Indianapolis Coltsâ game against the Baltimore Ravens. The perfect Colts took a win in a quite imperfect game. They committed three turnovers, including two interceptions by Peyton Manning and a series of penalties, only to take the game 17-15. The Colts, known for their explosive offensive, have been changing their scheme just a bit lately. If it had not been for their solid defense that went on overdrive to keep the Ravens out of the touchdown zone, things would have been quite different. Leaving the two interceptions aside, Manning did his part by throwing a touchdown pass and directing a 60-yard drive before Matt Stover kicked a 25-yard field goal to take over the scoreboard. The Ravens had one last chance to score with little over 4 minutes left in the clock, but a bad pass by their quarterback, Joe Flacco -when his team needed him most- ended up in an interception and the gameâs fate was sealed. If one takes into consideration not only this close win, but the fact that the Colts have won their last four games by a combined total of 10 points, we could come up with two different scenarios to explain this great streak. A) The Colts are living in the edge, taking too many risks and face a certain defeat in the following weeks, or B) they are surviving their every game, but are going to find a way to keep on claiming victory in more fashionable way. On the other hand, this Monday night, the New Orleans Saints are going to be facing the New England Patriots, in a game that might very well be their most challenging one so far this season. Letâs not forget that this impressive 10-0 record is an original feat in the Saintsâ franchiseâs history, and that the football they have been showing in the field reveals a solid and well organized squad. Compared to last yearsâ 8-8 record, this seasonâs numbers are quite spectacular. And thatâs not all. The Saintsâ quarterback, Drew Brees, is having a very good season. He has thrown for a season long 2,746 passing yards, and has also completed 22 touchdown passes. Those numbers are quite close to Peyton Manningâs. Brees certainly has a good and well-balanced game, and if he can keep up his stamina during this Monday Nightâs game, he might just have that magic touch needed to defeat the Patriotsâ defense. Even if New Orleans is the favorite among the sportsbook industry (Instant Action Sports opened the game line at NO Saints -3-105) the pressure is well over the Patriots. They need to take this victory if they want to prove themselves and their fans a team worthy of going for the Super Bowl. 11 straight wins in the season is certainly going to be a tough mark to reach for both New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. One thing is for certain, this Monday Night game is one you donât want to miss. So if you get a chance, tune in at 8:35 pm EST.

NFL Power Rankings Week 13: Saints and Colts Stay Undefeated
Posted by: | CommentsNow, it’s time for NFLpower rankings week 13 and Iâm ready to rank all 32 teams in our week 13 power rankings. The Monday night NFL game between the Patriots and Saints has just completed and the Saints make their statement.
We have reached week 13 with two unbeaten teams. The Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints have both beat the New England Patriots. The Saints and Colts are yet again in the top two spots, we can see two teams go 16-0 in the regular season. But at this point, the clear number one team in the league has to be Drew Brees and company.
In the week 13 NFL power rankings, there really isnât any team more deserving of the top spot than the New Orleans Saints.
Week 13 NFL power rankings clearly show that it is going to be a tough path ahead for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tennessee Titans, who won their fifth consecutive game with a fourth quarter comeback on Sunday afternoon.
The Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings who were able to win again on Sunday are looking really good. Those two teams, along with the New Orleans Saints seem to be close to playoff positions.
For the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers, it is a bad sign that are struggling because it means that more teams will be battling for that last AFC wild card spot.
The only reason the Broncos are ranked low is they lost 4 straight that is tough. So in order to climb higher they have got to pick up that winning streak and finish the season strong.
